Most video downloader apps cover a handful of sites and push a subscription for the rest. Ultimate Media Downloader takes a link from almost any big platform, from YouTube and Reddit to SoundCloud and Bilibili, and saves the video or audio without an extra app.
What it does
Share a link to the shortcut and it fetches the media behind it. The list of supported platforms is long, and the author says it isn’t limited to these:
- Video: YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, Twitch clips, Streamable, Loom, Rutube, OK.ru, VK videos and clips, Bilibili
- Social: Twitter/X, TikTok, Reddit, Facebook, Snapchat, Tumblr, Pinterest, Bluesky, Threads (added in v2.3)
- Music: SoundCloud, JioSaavn
Two limits are worth knowing up front. It doesn’t download images, only video and audio. Instagram is also listed as down until someone supplies working cookies, so don’t count on it there.
YouTube downloads run through the author’s own YouTube cookie. That’s what lets age-restricted videos come through, but videos blocked in the author’s region still won’t.
Adding it to your iPhone
Check that Show in Share Sheet is on in the shortcut’s details.
Using it day-to-day
From the app or Safari, tap Share on the video and choose Ultimate Media Downloader. Older instructions mention picking MP3 for music sites, but version 2.3 removed the MP3 option, so the current build no longer asks.
Twitter/X posts marked as NSFW are not supported with the default setup.
Where your downloads go
The shortcut hands you the file when it’s done, and iOS asks for permission the first time anything gets saved. Allow the location you actually want so you know where to look afterward.
Troubleshooting
A YouTube video won’t download. It may be blocked in the author’s region, which the shared cookie can’t get around.
Instagram links fail. That’s expected right now; Instagram support is down.
Nothing happens on a photo post. Images aren’t supported, only video and audio.
FAQ
Should I send the author my YouTube cookies to help?
The author does ask for cookies.txt files over Telegram and warns not to use your main account. A cookies file can give someone access to that account, so if you help, use a throwaway account you don’t mind losing.
Can I still get MP3s from SoundCloud?
The dedicated MP3 option is gone as of v2.3. Music sites still work through the normal download, though the output format isn’t documented.
Does it work for private videos?
Plan on public videos only. Content behind a login generally needs that account’s cookies, which this shortcut doesn’t have.
