Ever wished Safari on iPhone had a dark mode for every site, a JavaScript console or a way to view page source? SafariMastr adds all of those and a few more, launched from the Share Sheet while you’re on the page.
What it actually does
SafariMastr is a toolkit that works on whatever webpage you share to it. Tap Share, choose SafariMastr, pick a tool. The toolkit includes:
- Auto Scroll moves through long pages hands-free.
- Block Ads strips embedded ads and other embedded elements from the current page.
- Dark Mode applies a dark appearance to sites that don’t offer one.
- Edit Text makes the page’s text editable, handy for mockups or testing copy.
- Force Desktop Mode pushes a wide desktop layout when a site ignores Safari’s own Request Desktop Website option.
- JavaScript Console opens an interactive developer console on the page using Eruda, an open-source mobile console.
- Sticky Notes attaches notes to a page that are still there when you return.
- View Source shows the page’s HTML.
While it has access to the page, it shows Connected ✓. If you see Disconnected ⚠️, reopen it from Safari’s Share Sheet.
Most tools change the page only temporarily. Reload and everything goes back to normal, so there’s no risk of breaking a site.
Version 5.0 modernized the shortcut: a new first-time setup guide, better connection handling, and refreshed Auto Scroll, Dark Mode, Force Desktop Mode, console and View Source.
How to install
Run it from Safari once so the onboarding guide can walk you through it.
How to use it
Open a page in Safari, tap Share, then SafariMastr, and choose a tool. Shortcuts asks for permission to run JavaScript on the page the first time; allow it, since every tool depends on that.
You can replay the onboarding guide or reset it from Settings inside the shortcut. On iPad and Mac it works the same way, through Safari’s Share menu.
Use cases
- Reading a long article with Auto Scroll while your hands are busy.
- Checking a site’s HTML or debugging JavaScript on a phone, with no laptop around.
- Mocking up a text change on a live page to show a client or teammate.
- Leaving yourself a note on a recipe or documentation page for next time.
Limits
It only works on pages opened in Safari and shared from there, since it isn’t a separate browser. Sites that load ads in unusual ways may still show some after Block Ads runs.
Quick answers
Will Block Ads stick between visits?
Not between visits. Changes last until you reload, so you’d run it again on the next visit.
Do I need a Mac to use the console?
No Mac needed. The Eruda console runs right on the iPhone page, which is the point.
Which iOS version does it support?
It supports iOS and iPadOS 13 or later, plus Safari with the Shortcuts app on supported macOS versions.
