The usual fix for a stuck mobile connection is toggling Airplane Mode, which can also cut off your AirPods, your car and your watch. Network Refresher refreshes the cellular connection without Airplane Mode, so your Bluetooth devices stay connected.

What it actually does

It’s built as a one-tap fix for slow internet, high ping or an unstable connection. It promises a fresh network start, a cleared DNS cache and restarted network services.

It’s worth being clear about how a shortcut can do this. Shortcuts doesn’t have actions to reset network settings or flush DNS directly. Judging by the setup, which asks whether your carrier labels its network “4G” or “LTE” and how many SIMs you use, it works by switching your cellular mode and back. That forces your phone to drop and re-establish its connection to the network, much like toggling Airplane Mode does for cellular, but without touching Bluetooth.

In practice that’s often enough. A fresh connection can land you on a less congested tower or clear a session that’s gone bad.

Getting it set up

  1. During setup, type 1 and run the shortcut. If you get an error, reinstall it and type 2 instead. Carriers name the network either “4G” or “LTE”, and the two options cover both.
  2. Enter how many SIM cards or eSIMs your phone uses.
  3. Run it once by hand and approve every permission with Always Allow, then lock your phone and approve any remaining prompts.

Running the shortcut

Once set up, it’s a one-tap job. To make it reachable when your connection is acting up, put it in Control Center (iOS 18 and later) by tapping +, choosing Add a Control, then Shortcuts and selecting Network Refresher. You can also add it to your Home Screen from the shortcut’s Share menu.

Should the setup error keep coming back, the author offers an alternative version that uses a different method.

Use cases

Limits

It can’t fix a carrier outage or a dead zone. If refreshing twice doesn’t help, the problem is likely the network itself, and restarting your iPhone or contacting your carrier is the next step.

FAQ

Will it disconnect my Bluetooth devices?

It won’t. Avoiding that is the main reason it exists instead of Airplane Mode.

Does it work on Wi-Fi problems?

It targets the cellular connection. Wi-Fi issues usually need you to rejoin the network or restart the router.

What if I picked the wrong 4G/LTE option?

Reinstall the shortcut and choose the other number during setup.
